IIHF lancia gli eWorld Championship su EA Sports
La IIHF ha annunciato una nuova competizione: gli IIHF eWorld Championship. Dopo la stagione inaugurale degli IIHF eSports Fan Championship nel 2020, IIHF Gaming ritorna con una nuova competizione virtuale ancora più grande. L’annuncio arriva al seguito della stagione 2021-22 che per la prima volta ha visto lo storico accordo stipulato tra IIHF ed EA SPORTS™ NHL™ 22, sull’utilizzo delle licenze IIHF e il debutto delle nazionali femminili.
Quasi due anni dopo il primo lancio di un torneo virtuale firmato IIHF, nel 2022 gli eWorld Championsip (Registrati / Accedi), ritornano più grandi che mai. Parte dell’obiettivo è quello di dare ai suoi giocatori maggiori opportunità di poter rappresentare il proprio paese in una competizione ufficiale, quindi IIHF eSport ha deciso di espandere il numero dei paesi da 16 a 22.
“Con il lancio degli IIHF eWorld Championship, puntiamo a un nuovo inizio per quanto riguarda le offerte eSport future della IIHF”, ha detto il presidente Luc Tardif.
Qualificazioni a Giugno
Prima che le squadre possano darsi battaglia sui campi ghiacciati digitali, ogni nazione dovrà selezionare la sua squadra composta da 2 giocatori. Il torneo comincerà con una fase di qualificazione online per determinare i 44 campioni nazionali: 22 per Play Station e 22 per Xbox. Le qualifiche cominceranno il 16 giugno e dureranno fino al 26.
Una volta confermati i campioni nazionali, una fase a gironi iniziale sarà disputata a inizio luglio. Le 22 squadre saranno divise in due giorni da 5 e due giorni da 6 dai quali le prime due qualificate accederanno ai playoffs. Una volta ai quarti di finale (la settimana seguente), si procederà fino alla proclamazione del prossimo campione degli IIHF eWorld Championship 2022.
Dalla prima giornata dei gironi fino alla grande finale, tutti i match saranno trasmessi in streaming e dunque visibili in tutto il mondo.

Per poter partecipare ogni giocatore deve avere la nazionalità di una delle squadre partecipanti, avere almeno 16 anni e possedere una versione di NHL™ 22 per “Xbox One” o “PlayStation 4”. Sarà possibile partecipare anche con PlayStation 5 o Xbox Series X|S.
IIHG Gaming ospiterà gli eWorld Championship 2022 in collaborazione con i suoi due partner principali: Skoda e Strauss.
IIHF launched eWorld Championship on EA Sports
The IIHF has announced a new competition: the IIHF eWorld Championships. Following the inaugural season of the IIHF eSports Fan Championships in 2020, IIHF Gaming returns with a new, even bigger virtual competition. The announcement comes on the heels of the 2021-22 season, which for the first time saw the historic agreement made between the IIHF and EA SPORTS™ NHL™ 22, on the use of IIHF licences and the debut of the women’s national teams.
Nearly two years after the first launch of an IIHF-signed virtual tournament in 2022, the eWorld Championsip (Register/Login), returns bigger than ever. Part of the goal is to give its players more opportunities to be able to represent their country in an official competition, so IIHF eSport has decided to expand the number of countries from 16 to 22.
“With the launch of the IIHF eWorld Championship, we are aiming for this to be the start of a new program of eSport offerings in the future”, said IIHF President Luc Tardif.
Qualification phase in June
Before the teams can battle it out on the digital rink, each nation has to find its two-man squad. The World Championship will kick off with an online qualifier to determine the 44 national champions: 22 competing on PlayStation and 22 on Xbox. The qualifiers will begin on 16 June with the national competition of Norway and Switzerland, the last qualifier will be held on 26 June – deciding who will play for the 2020 finalists Sweden.
Once the national champions are confirmed, an initial group stage will be played in early July. The 22 countries compete in two groups of five and two groups of six, the top two squads of each group progressing to the playoffs. The playoffs start one week later with the quarter-final, followed by the semi-final – where the two finalists of the IIHF eWorld Championship 2022 will be found.
From group stage to the grand final all matches between the member national associations will be streamed live for all the ice hockey and NHL™ 22 fans around the globe to follow.
