Dopo i due tempi regolamentari, chiusi sullo 0 a 0, gli azzurri trovano le due decisive reti all’overtime: prima con Paolo Colamaria, e poi Giovanni Tagliapietra. L’Italia va vicina alla rete con Tagliapietra ma Oliviero salva i suoi. Poco dopo è Gomez lanciato in contropiede non riesce a superare Mugnaini. Gli ultimi minuti sono infuocati con Francia ed Italia vicine alla rete del vantaggio in diverse occasioni. Sullo scadere l’occasione più ghiotta ce l’ha la Francia con Gelebart, ma l’arbitro aveva già fermato il gioco. Si va ai supplementari: due tempi da 3 minuti ciascuno.

Alessandro Uva non riesce a segnare. Gli azzurri iniziano il secondo tempo supplementare con poco meno di due minuti di superiorità numerica. Francia esce indenne dall’inferiorità numerica. A 19 secondi dalla fine Giovanni Tagliapietra realizza la rete del 2 a 0 azzurro.

It went into extra time: two periods of three minutes each.
