L’hockey italiano piange la scomparsa di Shahida Raza, capitana della nazionale femminile di hockey su prato del Pakistan e calciatrice dello Balochistan United. La 27enne, madre di una figlia che a quanto pare non era con lei sull’imbarcazione, è una delle 67 vittime finora accertate del naufragio dei migranti davanti alla Spiaggia dello Steccato di Cutro sulla costa crotonese, nel Mare Ionio. Su quella nave erano in 150, accalcati nella stiva in condizioni disumane.
Scappava dalle persecuzioni del suo paese che affliggono tutte le donne ed anche la sua etnia, in quanto Raza era Hazara Sciita. Scappava per crearsi un futuro lontano dal suo paese nativo, ma le onde del mare l’hanno trascinata via con se. A Quetta, come calciatrice, giocava in una squadra composta da atlete di ogni religione ed etnia e lo faceva per professione: ogni vittoria poteva valere dai 5000 ai 30000 ruple, dai 17,5 ai 105 euro. La sua morte è stata confermata dalla Federazione di Hockey del Pakistan.

Italian hockey mourns the death of Shahida Raza, captain of the Pakistan women’s national hockey team and player for Balochistan United. The 27-year-old, mother of a daughter who was apparently not with her on the boat, is one of the 67 victims so far of the migrants’ shipwreck off the Spiaggia dello Steccato di Cutro on the Crotone coast in the Ionian Sea. There were 150 of them on that ship, crammed into the hold in inhuman conditions.
She was fleeing persecution in her country that afflicts all women and also her ethnicity, as Raza was Hazara Shia. She fled to create a future for herself far from her native country, but the waves of the sea swept her away. In Quetta, as a footballer, she played in a team made up of female athletes of all religions and ethnicities and did so professionally: each victory could be worth between 5000 and 30000 ruples, 17.5 to 105 euros. Her death was confirmed by the Pakistan Hockey Federation.
