WSE Cup 2022/23: Quarterfinals finalized
At the end of yesterday’s matches of WSE Cup 2022/23, the Quarterfinals have been defined. Bassano, Braga, Caldes, Coutras, Follonica and Igualada, Voltregà and Finques Pratis Lleida advance to the round, the latter overturning the first leg result. Out of seven of the eight matches played last night, the team that had won the first leg match won. In fact, LLeida is the only team that overturned the result of the first game: defeated 5 to 4 at home, found 4 to 3 in Valdagno and then won on penalties.
The quarterfinals will be played on March 11 and 25, and at the end of which the four teams that will participate in the Final Four (April 22-23, 2023) will be known. Two matches between Spain-Italy: Voltregà-Follonica and Bassano-Lleida. Caldes-Coutras and Igualada-Braga are the other two first-round matches. The second round, the decisive one, will be played at the homes of Follonica, Lleida, Coutras and Braga.
Bassano managed to win the Italian derby against Grosseto only on penalties, with the “biancorossi” finding 4-5 with seconds left, temporarily tying the game (4 goals by Marc Coy). Braga won 3-2 over the Spaniards of Alcoy after a very tense match that was only defined in the second half (Trabulo the matchwinner). The French Coutras won the second game 8-3 (3 goals by Toni Sero) against Herringen.
Follonica beat the Germans of Remscheid 8-3 (hat-trick by Banini and Cancela). Igualada was defeated by Lyon in France 6-4, but the 13-1 lead in the first leg created no problems for the Spanish team (4 goals for Lyon’s Lazarus). Voltregà, on the strength of its three-goal lead in the first leg, won 4-1 in Switzerland at home to Diessbach. Finally, Lleida won on penalties in Valdagno, after regulation time had ended 3-4 to the Spaniards.
